Turkey-Syria Earthquake: Another 6.4 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes The Region

One of the greatest tragedies, arguably the biggest tragedy of the year so far has been the series of earthquakes that rocked the countries of Syria and Turkey. After the two regions were shaken by three devastating earthquakes almost one after the other, many parts of the two countries were reduced to rubble. On the 20th of February, Monday, the two regions were once again shaken by another major earthquake.

Turkey-Syria Earthquake: 6.4 Magnitude Earthquake Hits The Region

The latest in a series of devastating earthquakes to hit the regions of Turkey and Syria, this one measured 6.4 in magnitude on the Richter Scale. The epicentre of the earthquake was near the southern Turkish city of Antakya. Ripples of the earthquake were even felt in parts of Syria, Egypt, and Lebanon.

The earthquake was a total of 10 km (6.4 miles) deep and caused considerable damage. According to reports as of now, the earthquake has claimed the lives of 6 people and has injured close to 300 people.

The affected people, according to Fahrettin Koca, the Turkish Health Minister, have been transported to hospitals in Adana and Doryotol.

Another Earthquake Follows Shortly After

Shortly after this, another earthquake of 5.4 magnitudes was felt in the Samandag district in Hatay. These earthquakes are the latest in the line of many that shook the countries of Turkey and Syria.

The two countries are still reeling from the devastation left in the wake of the earthquakes. The lives lost to this tragedy are at an all-time high. Many people were buried in the rubble of the fallen buildings.

Some of these people were lucky enough to be saved from the rubble alive, others, not so much. There were many children who were saved from the rubble as well. Several heartwarming videos of children being dug out of the rubble, still alive and well, went viral on the Internet.
