UAE’s Ministry Of Health Approves Use Of Sinopharm Vaccine For 3-17 Age Group

The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has approved the emergency use of the Sinopharm vaccine for 3 to 17 age group, based on the results of clinical studies, the strict assessment to approve the emergency use of the vaccine and the local evaluation that complies with the approved regulations.

The Decision Was Made After Clinical Trials & Evaluations

The approval for the vaccine comes as part of the UAE’s efforts to combat the COVID-19 virus, and an affirmation of its proactive approach to ensure the health and safety of community members. MoHAP announced the provision of Sinopharm vaccine for the age group 3 – 17. The decision comes after clinical trials and extensive evaluations and is based on the emergency use authorization and local evaluations which are in line with the approved regulations.

UAE Schools Began Vaccination Drive For Pupils In May 2021

UAE authorities urged those aged 16 and above to take the covid vaccine to break the chain of infection. And on the same, Pali Nahal, acting vice-principal at Uptown International School, said to a leading daily that over 100 pupils at the school had received both doses of the Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine under their initiative.

Meanwhile, Gems Education has carried out two vaccination drives in March and April. Teresa Varman, principal at Gems Millennium School Sharjah, said pupils at her school received the first dose of the vaccine as part of a group-wide initiative at Gems New Millennium School Al Khail in early April.

The school took permission from the parents, and once they got the consent, they arranged for the students to get the vaccine. Gems Education was also able to hold graduation since almost all the pupils had received the vaccine. Teresa Varman also said that vaccinating pupils brings them one step closer to normalcy.

In terms of vaccine, more than eight in 10 private school teachers in Dubai have received their first dose. In January, 60 per cent of private education staff – 15,000 people – in Abu Dhabi received the first dose of the Sinopharm vaccine following a two-week vaccination drive organised by the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge.
