Under Its New Solar Power Policy, Uttarakhand To Develop 1000 Solar-Powered Villages

Uttarakhand is widely known as “Dev Bhumi” and is one of the most beautiful and divine states of India. Soon, the state will be known for one more amazing reason. The government of Uttarakhand is planning to develop about 1000 solar-powered villages. Yes, you read that right. The villages will be self-sufficient under its soon-to-be-implemented solar power policy.

1000 Solar-Powered Villages In Uttarakhand

The Uttarakhand energy department released a draft of the “Uttarakhand State Solar Policy 2022” on November 18 of this year. The draft invited public recommendations and comments. According to the drought policy, the Uttarakhand Renewable Energy Development Agency (UREDA) will convert 1000 villages into solar-powered villages.

By incorporating solar into the rural economy, these solar villages hope to increase the security and quality of the power supply, increase rural revenue, reinforce education and health facilities, and create jobs. These villages will act as models, not only at the state level but also at the national level.

The State Has A Good Potential For Solar Energy

The solar-powered villages will focus on four areas of intervention: empowering communities through community solar installations; empowering and enhancing institutional facilities; empowering people’s livelihoods through decentralised productive appliances; and empowering agricultural and agro-based MSMEs.

The policy also encourages solar and storage solutions in the designated solar villages to promote self-consumption The Uttarakhand Solar Power Land Allotment Committee (USPLAC) will look after the process of land allotment. The state government will offer incentives to new manufacturing facilities if they use solar energy in order to promote solar manufacturing facilities and improve economic growth and jobs in the state.
