UPSRTC Website Gets Hacked By International Thugs; Restoration Will Take About 10 Days

An increasing number of governmental tasks are being digitised. From booking tickets and paying to even marking pick-up and drop spots, everything can be done online. However, as convenient as this digitisation is, there’s also an increasing risk of getting hacked. Such a fear is mostly prevalent in the older generation but recently, in the state of Uttar Pradesh or UP, these fears were substantiated after the UPSRTC website got hacked.

The ticketing website by the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation or the UPSRTC recently got hacked. The ticketing website served to aid the purchasing of tickets on state buses run by the state government. This hacking is said to be done by a gang of international hackers.

This means that passengers and officials will not be able to book or issue tickets through the website any longer. The restoration of the website is underway, however, it will take some time. According to reports, the complete restoration o the website will take somewhere between a week and 10 days.

According to the managing director of UPSRTC, Sanjay Kumar, officials have lodged a First Information Report or an FIR against the hacking of the website with the Mumbai Police. The website is managed by Orion Pro.

This particular incident did not impinge on the regular functioning of the day-to-day services in any way. This means that the buses are running as per usual. Since the ticketing website is down, the tickets are being issued manually. It is hoped that after the restoration of the website, passengers will soon be able to avail the ease of e-ticketing.

The website-facilitated electronic ticketing service commenced in the month of November last year. Since then, this is the first time such an incident of hacking has taken place. As of now, there are more than 11 thousand vehicles under the UPSRTC.
