In a devastating incident, Nandadevi Glacier in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district broke on Sunday, February 7. This glacier burst, in turn, led to massive flash floods near the banks of Dhauliganga river in Reni village. Several houses in the vicinity were destroyed. Hundreds of Indo-Tibetan Border Police personnel have rushed for rescue operations. Water activities in Rishikesh have all been stopped and flood alerts have been issued in Haridwar. It’s feared that there might be around 100 to 150 casualties due to these tragic floods. Read on to know more.

Massive Foods In Uttarakhand Due To Glacier Burst

A massive flood has been reported from Uttarakhand’s Dhauliganga. This flood took place due to the Nandadevi Glacier break which caused the river water to swell up. The floods destroyed many houses n the riverside. Due to the rise in the water level in the area, several people have gone missing.  Around 100 to 150 people are feared to be dead. Prime Minister Modi tweeted his support and prayers for Uttarakhand. He tweeted, Am constantly monitoring the unfortunate situation in Uttarakhand. India stands with Uttarakhand and the nation prays for everyone’s safety there. Have been continuously speaking to senior authorities and getting updates on NDRF deployment, rescue work and relief operations.”

Uttarakhand CM Releases Helpline Numbers For People In Flood Affected Areas

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat informed media houses that the police, disaster management departments and district administration have all been directed to deal with this situation. He also appealed to people to not pay heed to any kind of rumours and assured everyone that the government is taking all necessary steps to deal with this calamity. According to Zee News, the CM informed citizens that people were being evacuated from areas near Alaknanda.

To help victims stranded, three choppers including two Mi-17 and one ALH Dhruv chopper of Air Force stationed in Dehradun are deployed to carry out rescue operations in flood-affected areas. CM Rawat released Helpline numbers for people stuck in the affected regions- 1070, 1905 or 9557444486.
