Uttarakhand Has India’s First Pollinator Park With 40 Species Of Butterflies, Birds & Insects

 While you might know Uttarakhand for its white snowcapped peaks, the state is slowly turning green and how. India’s first-ever Moss Garden came up in Uttarakhand. And now the hilly destination has got India’s first pollinator park in Haldwani in Nainital district. The 4-acre park opened its doors to the public on December 29. The park houses more than 40 pollinator species including honeybees, butterflies, birds and insects. Read on to know more.

India’s First Pollinator Park Come Up In Uttarakhand

With Uttarakhand opening India’s first pollinator park, there’s alot to look forward to. Sanjiv Chaturvedi, who conceived the project stated to The New Indian Express “The objective of the park is to conserve various pollinator species, create awareness among general public about importance and conservation of these species and promote further research on various aspects of pollination, including threat to habitat and impact of pollution, use of pesticides/insecticides and relation between various pollinators and plant species.”

If you’re wondering what the pollinators are, they include butterflies, beetles, bats, wasps, small mammals, birds and bees. The founder of Butterfly Research Centre, Bhimtal, Peter Smetacek stated to TNIE, “The initiative is one of a kind in the country and will help in generating awareness among the public on how important pollination and pollinators are. Without those species, life on earth will come to an end.”

Over 40 Species Of Pollinators Reside Here

This park has habitats for different pollinators. Visitors can also find seasonal flowering plants like salvia, ester and sunflower to name a few.  Nests have been placed across the park to attract butterfly species and bird feeders. Butterflies can visit waterbodies for mud puddling. Dead and dry trees are kept as crucial habitats for pollinators like insects and squirrels. This is a very unique park.
