Uttarakhand To Host Asia’s Biggest Lake Festival With Water Sports & Fireworks

Asia’s biggest lake festival, the Tehri Lake Festival in Uttarakhand will take place from February 16 to February 17, 2021. Hosted every year around this time by the Uttarakhand state government, it is one of the most happening lake festivals in the country. It includes oodles of thrilling water-sports activities like canoeing, river-rafting, boating, jet skiing, banana rides and surfing. One can also take part in aerial sports at this festival like paragliding. Other attractions at the two-day festival will include mesmerising fireworks, yoga sessions, cultural dances and musical performances.

The Festival Will Include Activities Like Canoeing, River-Rafting, Surfing And Paragliding

The small town, Tehri in Uttrakhand sits at the confluence of Bhagirathi and Bhilangna Rivers. Tehri Lake is at a height of around 1,700 meters.  It is an artificial dam reservoir in the Uttarakhand mountains that came into existence at the time of the construction of the Tehri Dam. And after its creation, it has become one of the most picturesque lake destinations and attracts a good number of tourists.

Each year the Tehri Lake Festival happens here and this year it will take place from February 16 to February 17. The festival will include a host of adventure activities like canoeing, river-rafting, boating, jet skiing, banana rides, surfing and paragliding, along with cultural performances, yoga sessions and gorgeous fireworks. Free adventure training is also offered to deserving candidates at the Tehri Lake.

India’s Longest Motorable Suspension Bridge Runs Over The Tehri Lake

India has its longest motorable suspension bridge in Uttarakhand, over the Tehri Lake.  Known as the Dobra-Chanti suspension bridge, this is 725 metres long. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat had inaugurated the suspension bridge on November 8, 2020. This bridge took 14 years for its construction and the cost of construction was around 2.95 crores. The Dobra-Chanti suspension bridge connects Tehri Garhwal district headquarters and the Pratap Nagar town. It cuts short the travel time between Tehri and Pratap Nagar from 5 hours to just 1.5 hours.
