Viral: Woman Travelling Ticketless On Train Argues With TTE; Says, “Gundagardi Math Karo”

It’s unfortunately very common these days to find passengers travelling ticketless on trains, usurping seats meant for ticketed passengers and refusing to vacate the coaches. A viral video shows a woman seated on the top berth of a train arguing with the Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) when he demanded she show her ticket. Here’s more to it.

Woman Caught On Camera Travelling Ticketless On Train

A video, posted by a journalist, Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj, showed a woman occupying the top sleeper berth of a train. She is seen fiddling with her phone as the TTE asks her to show her ticket. The TTE is seen asking fellow passengers what problem they were facing. In the background, a man chimes in that she didn’t have a ticket and she was troubling her fellow passengers.

“Ticket dikhao” (show your ticket), the railway official demands. The woman is seen pretending to search for her ticket on her phone. Hashly, the woman says, “Ho gaya bahut! Gundagardi karne ki zaroorat nahin hai” ( You don’t need to behave like hooligans). The passengers and TTE reply that they aren’t behaving unfairly or harshly. But the woman, travelling ticketless, needed to show her to prove she was a valid traveller.

Refuses To Disembark From Her Seat

The voices in the background questioned the time taken just to show a ticket. “Haa! itna time lagta hai,” she answered haughtily, while refusing to vacate her seat until she shows proof. Many validated that she didn’t have a ticket and revealed that the seat belonged to a man who was waiting for her to disembark. They kept telling her to disembark to allow the man to head to his rightful seat. “Do you think we are mad? Do you think we are all mad?” the TTE and others ask in Hindi. But the video ends with the traveller stubbornly refusing to leave her seat.

Netizens took to the comments section of this video to slam ticketless travellers. Some Netizens called it a ‘sense of entitlement’ only prevalent in India, especially in Indian Railways. Others demanded a short jail term as an adequate punishment. Others revealed that they’ve seen similar videos circulating on social media lately.

Have you seen a surge in ticketless travellers on trains in India, like the incident shown in the video.
