In a world where climate change is already causing a lot of damage, switching to greener sources of energy has become extremely important. Keeping this in mind, India, today, took a step towards a greener future which would also help in achieving its Net Zero target by the year 2050. The Union Minister of Civil Aviation and Steel of India, Jyotiraditya M Scindia, recently unveiled the very first green hydrogen plant in the stainless steel sector in India. Here are all of the important details that you would need to know about this particular new green initiative.

JM Scindia Unveils India’s First Green Hydrogen Plant

According to an article which was recently published by Moneycontrol, the plan to set up this hydrogen plant was made in August 2022 when Jindal Stainless announced a partnership with Hygenco India Private Limited.

Today, JM Scindia virtually launched what is now being known as the very first green hydrogen plant in the stainless steel sector in India. Initially, it was supposed to be unveiled on February 27, 2024. However, it got delayed to March 4.

This plant is located in the Hisar region of the Indian state of Haryana. The virtual inauguration was done at 11 AM from the Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan in New Delhi.

To Lower 54,000 Tonnes Of Carbon Emissions In 20 Years

As per the company’s statement cited in the Moneycontrol article, the plant is supposed to reduce as much as 54,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions over the next two decades. 

The Central Government is pushing for the use of green hydrogen in order to reduce the emission of carbon in steel and iron production. This move can also be seen as an effect of that push.
