With New Bans On International Flights, This Is What Can Happen To Your Booked Tickets

As India suffers the deadly second wave of the virus, many countries have restricted travel to and from India. While the UK has put India on the ‘red list’, Canada and UAE have banned flights from India. Many other countries such as Singapore, Hong Kong, and Pakistan have also tightened travel curbs to and from India. However, these countries have imposed a ban on travel with a grace period. For example, flights to UAE will be suspended from April 24.

But what should you do if you already have an advanced ticket booked for destinations such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah during the ‘travel ban’ period? Airlines such as Emirates, Etihad, FlyDubai, Air Arabia, or Indian carriers like IndiGo, SpiceJet, Air India, and Air India Express have revised advisory for all passengers. For example, Air India Express said in a statement that “booked to fly with us during this period will be able to reschedule their tickets once the restrictions are lifted”. Currently, the travel restrictions to UAE are in place for 10 days, following which they will review the situation and take a call.

Travelling To India

Most of the countries have imposed restrictions on outbound travel from India, and therefore there is no prohibition on travelling to India. Most of the countries will continue to operate their flights to India. However, a senior executive of a Dubai-based airline said that the decision to operate flights to India will depend on the passenger load. If there are not enough passengers travelling from UAE to India, they might cancel these flights.
