The coronavirus outbreak has left to many companies providing their employees work from home facilities. Many people are also opting for self-quarantine practices to stay safe. Now the latest news is that food delivery apps Zomato and Swiggy will soon start providing contactless food delivery services amidst this virus epidemic as a safety measure for both its staff and customers. So now you can order food at the comfort of your home while being perfectly assured of your safety and health.

Deepinder Goyal, the founder of Zomato revealed that the app will soon feature an update where users can select the type of delivery they want. Once an online order is placed on Zomato, the customer can update the type of order manually in the delivery instructions section of the app. Goyal explained the process through a series of tweets.

According to Goyal, the Zomato delivery executive will place the food package outside the door of the customer’s premises. A photo will be sent to the customer to ensure that the order has been received. The founder further added that delivery partners are being sent various advisories on coronavirus released by the Ministry of Health & Family Affairs, so they can keep themselves updated on the situation. He also stated that Zomato is focussing on the best methods to handle food packages to ensure hygienic and safe delivery. Goyal has urged his delivery partners to self-quarantine or visit a doctor immediately if they have any symptoms of the virus.

Apart from Zomato, Swiggy also has a similar section where users can direct delivery personnel to place orders outside the door. The food delivery app sent out newsletters to its customers stating the measures its undertaking to ensure hygiene in view of the coronavirus outbreak. Swiggy’s statement stated tat delivery partners are being trained to main best practices of respiratory hygiene, proper method and frequency of washing hands and identification of symptoms of coronavirus. If a delivery partner may notice the associated symptoms then they have been urged to immediately reach out to the officials at Swiggy and consult a medical professional. Delivery partners at Swiggy have been asked to self-quarantine themselves for a certain period if they are noticed with symptoms. The food delivery app has stated they will be financially supporting their delivery partners in such situations. Restaurant partners have been intimated to follow best hygiene practices while handling and packaging food items. In addition to all this Swiggy has stated in its newsletter that delivery partners can be requested to leave food parcels outside the doors of customers, in case of an online payment if customers are feeling unwell or they prefer to do so as a safety precaution.
