Bengaluru: Spells Of Heavy Rainfall Cause Waterlogging, Traffic Snarls & More

Residents of Bengaluru have been enjoying pleasant weather for the last few days as the city is continuing to receive heavy spells of rain. After this year’s first heavy rainfall, Bengaluru witnessed another spell on Thursday. Though the scorching temperature has decreased and the weather is too perfect, rainfall is creating major chaos for everyone. From waterlogging to traffic congestion, people are facing different issues.

Just a couple of days ago, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for rainfall in the Karnataka capital. The department forecasted moderate to heavy downpours and gusty winds. Following the issued alert, the city saw similar adverse weather conditions on Thursday. All these led to waterlogging in many parts of Bengaluru, just like the situation was after the first spell of this year.

Soon, commuters started facing problems on the road because of poor traffic snarls, especially at night. Bengaluru traffic police swiftly started taking necessary steps to improve the congestion faced during vehicular movement on roads, according to a report by Hindustan Times. Police were positioned in most parts of Bengaluru to ease the lines of vehicles lined up on roads and streets.

Bengaluru is already known for its traffic and how commuters often need to wait for a long time to reach some destinations by road. Yesterday’s heavy rainfall only worsened the congestion and traffic jams impacted most bustling areas of the Karnataka capital. A lot of people had no option but to remain in that terrible traffic.

Traffic congestion has continued to trouble residents since last night. Not only did people spend hours stuck in jams last night but many even came across similar situations on Friday morning while on their way to offices and workplaces. Some of the places that faced the most problems because of traffic issues last night were Sumanahalli junction, Airport Road, Nayandahalli junction, RR Nagar Arch, Chalukya Circle to Hebbal flyover, some roads towards the Kempegowda International Airport, underpasses, and more.

Police staff were present to improve the situation. Vehicles were diverted to different routes as some roads were flooded and vehicular movement came to a halt. So many people were late to reach the airport as many roads leading to it were packed with vehicles.
