According to an article which was recently published by the Hindustan Times or HT, the rules were announced on Wednesday, May 8. They are slated to come into effect from August 1 after a temporary order passed in 2021 expires.

As per the new rules, all dogs entering the US must be at least six months old and must be microchipped. For dogs that are coming in from countries where rabies is common, vaccination is a must. These rules apply to breeders, rescue groups and owners alike.

In addition to these rules, there may be some other specific regulations that one must follow based on the country they are travelling from. For instance, based on where the dog was in the last six months, it may have to have blood testing done from CDC-approved labs.

The temporary order put in place in 2021 restricted the entry of dogs from more than 100 countries where rabies was rampant. It is estimated that around one million dogs enter the US every year.

These new rules have gotten mixed reactions. While many officials think that these rules will help in dealing with the problems they’re facing, others worry that it may be too expensive and cumbersome to go through.
