Nestled at an elevation of 2880 m, Abbot Mount is a charming hill station tucked in the Kali Kumaon region of  Uttarakhand’s Champawat district. Abbott Mount gets its name from British surgeon Dr. James Abbott. He served as the Commissioner of Kumaon during the British Raj era. The majestic peak in the Lohaghat town is flanked by thirteen British-era bungalows and manicured gardens. The luscious valley in the Himalayas leaves a lasting impression on visitors. As dusk falls, the sky is painted in vibrant hues, and the sunset is truly a sight to behold.

Trekking enthusiasts can embark on exhilarating trails to see the exquisite sunrise. When the first rays of sunrise illuminate the peaks of the Himalayas, it’s an out-worldly experience indeed! A Haunted Mansion In The Hill Station Attracts Adventure Seekers

Especially from June to October, Abbott Mount offers unparalleled views of snow-clad mountains, vibrant butterflies and rhododendron flowers. For those seeking adventure, a haunted bungalow is sure to drive chills down your spine. This hill station is known to be one of the most haunted places in India. A local resident Doctor Morris used to operate a hospital from this building in the 1900s. It was one of the largest hospitals in Lohaghat district.

Locals believed Doctor Morris could predict the time of death of his patients. He was known to conduct experiments on his patients suffering from fatal diseases. There were many stories of him shifting his seriously ill patients to a special ward called ‘Mukti Kothri’ where he conducted experiments on them. Villagers of the area still believe the spirits of his patients continue to haunt the building. Many tourists walk right into the spooky mansion to capture videos and photos of the intriguing site. Over time, it has emerged as an offbeat spot for adventure seekers.
