Sanjiv Kapoor Explained On Twitter Why Cabin Lights Should Not Be Turned Off

Sanjiv Kapoor took to his Twitter account to share his views on switching off cabin lights during flights.

He stated how he dislikes “the practice of plunging the cabin into complete darkness during night flights / after service”. The CEO even barred switching off cabin lights in both SpiceJet and Vistara when he was there. His suggestion is to dim the lights, instead of turning them off.

Kapoor also shared how dimming the cabin lights is “for both safety and service”. Walking through the aisles in darkness with lights on can be quite difficult as it has chances to stumble or even trip over. Also with dimmed light, the crew can look after the cabin.

Sanjiv Kapoor Added Further Reasons To Not Switch Off The Lights

He guessed how some crew switches off cabin lights to force sleep the passengers and reduce the workload.

In another tweet, the JET airways CEO added that only “the crew master control on dimming with a lock should not be allowed except for takeoff and landing.” In fact, he added how he saw this misused by the crew on multiple airlines.

He focused a lot on the cabin crew’s safety. He shared that this “is not just a matter of service”, instead it “is also the aspect of safety”. “From both a safety and service perspective”, the crew can take a look more clearly and also monitor everything well.
