In the world of cheesecakes and eclairs, we have forgotten the simple Indian desserts that our grandparents relished. Lapsi is one such dish! Made with broken wheat, ghee, dry fruits and milk, this Indian dessert has a lot of variations that you can try. Though it is a part of North Indian cuisine, the dish is often made and served as ‘naivedya’ or ‘prasad’.

It is said to have originated from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. However, there is no specific evidence. The dish is quite versatile as you can switch several ingredients and make your own version. Though this dish is originally made with dalia, you can replace it with ‘sooji’ or ‘rava’, besan or even almond flour! Because of its liquid consistency, lapsi is easy to digest and makes for a wholesome dish. And it is one of the reasons why you will notice lapsi in children’s diets!
