There are several variations of this original South Indian delicacy but Nagpur’s black idlis are something else. Ashish Vidyarthi is a fellow actor who loves to try different food dishes and documents his experience. And he has recorded his experience of trying these black idlis and posted the video on Instagram.

The video starts by showing the steaming hot black idlis served with ghee and gunpowder (also known as Milagai Podi). You can see the actor relishing this comforting food — what bliss! The owner reveals that the idlis are made with brown parts of coconut, orange peel, beet juice and beet pulp. You need to dry the ingredients and roast them without oil. Everything is natural and you can mix the powder with rava to make these idlis.

Moreover, they have been serving it for more than six years. The actor is totally amazed by this new kind of idli and urges everyone to try it once! Just like the actor, Netizens are in awe of this new variety of idli and are asking for the recipe.

Idli Variations That You Need To Try!

Traditionally, the idlis are made with rice and urad dal but there are different variations that you can try. We are aware of Podi Idli, Kanchipuram Idli, Thatte Idli, etc, but did you know that you can change the ingredients? Yes! You can make idlis with oats, ragi, rava, millets and more! And if you want to make it more healthy, try adding different vegetables to the batter.
