Delhi Residents Face Double Trouble With Earthquake & Pollution; Lighthearted Memes Flood Internet

Delhi residents faced double trouble on Friday as they felt strong tremors from the earthquake that struck Nepal. The residents have already been struggling with the densely polluted air around them as the city’s air quality exceeded the danger line. On the other hand, social media got flooded with lighthearted memes explaining Delhi’s situation. The memes are not to hurt anyone’s sentiments or make fun of any tragic situation.

Delhi Residents Face Double Trouble

Strong tremors were felt throughout northern India, including the Delhi-NCR region, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh, after a magnitude-6.4 earthquake struck Nepal on Friday night.

The earthquake struck at 11:32 p.m. at a depth of 10 kilometers, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS). Residents of high-rise buildings immediately rushed to the streets. The tremors continued for more than a minute, scaring the people.

This seismic event made matters worse for Delhiites, who were already struggling with skyrocketing air pollution levels; in certain regions, the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) exceeded the danger line on a scale of 500.

The Air Quality Index (AQI) for Delhi was 504 on Saturday morning, marking the third day in a row that the city’s air was extremely polluted. The national capital’s and the surrounding districts’ concentration of harmful PM2.5 remained more than 80 times the WHO guideline, even though there was a minor reduction in pollution levels overnight due to increasing wind speeds.

Social Media Memes

If you are active on social media, you might have come across thousands of memes that show the condition of Delhites.

The memes were lighthearted and did not mean to make fun of anyone’s situation. The memes from 2022 are also recirculating, talking about the survival of Delhi people after COVID, pollution, and earthquakes.

One of the most hit memes is “Earthquake hai bahar chalo, Air pollution hai andar chalo,” showing their dilemma because of air pollution and the earthquake.

Residents Of Delhi Are Concerned

According to the NCS, the earthquake’s epicenter was 10 kilometers deep in Nepal. Strong tremors caused people in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) to flee their houses. Many buildings trembled after the earthquake. This is the third time in a month that Nepal has experienced powerful earthquakes.

Residents of New Delhi are now extra concerned about the dangerous air quality. The constantly degrading quality comes even after the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has been aggressively putting anti-pollution measures into action. This includes dust emission control, green road paving, rubbish detection patrols, and vehicle emission control.

Delhiites are therefore coping with nature’s two obstacles, and everyone is hoping that things will get better soon. Allow these memes to soothe you while you wait!
