Delhi Street Vendors & Hawkers Can Now Operate From 10 am To 8 pm

With the pandemic tightening its grip over the world, India suffers as the fourth most infected country. Here many small-scale and individual businesses are running out of options to sustain themselves. On that note, street vendors across the country are the most affected as they have no means to fend for their family. Therefore, it is a welcome relief that on July 27, Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal announced that the Delhi government shall pass an order to allow street vendors and hawkers to operate from 10 am to 8 pm. These street food vendors earlier received training on hygiene standards amid the pandemic. 

Delhi Govt Allows Hawkers & Street Vendors To Operate From 10 am To 8 pm

On July 27, Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal said that the Delhi government will pass an order to allow street vendors and hawkers to restart their business. In a virtual press briefing, Kejriwal informed about a special order. This order once passed shall allow street vendors and hawkers to restart their livelihood in Delhi. Street food vendors in Mumbai are also suffering financially due to the lockdown.

Hawkers Must-Follow Social Distancing & Other Precautionary Measures

The government stated that various hawkers can operate from 10 am to 8 pm every day. But they must follow social distancing and all other precautionary measures to avoid the spread of COVID-19. Kejriwal also addressed the previous confusion. The government earlier didn’t permit street vendors to work in Delhi. But now, the Delhi government permits them to operate from 10 am to 8 pm.

Earlier Curly Tales got in touch with some Delhi street food vendors to know their plight amid the pandemic. Many of them currently face struggles to survive financially. But now that the union territory announced to let street vendors and hawkers operate from 10 am to 8 pm, it’s definitely light at the end of the tunnel. This comes as a welcome relief for the teeming population who depend on their own business to sustain their families.
