Delhi’s Weekly Markets To Get Global Makeover Like London & Hong Kong Markets

Delhiites! Your favourite weekly markets will soon get an international makeover. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal revealed on August 25 that the government will work towards ensuring world-class facilities for its weekly markets across the national capital. The government shall project these markets as one of the most important tourist destinations across the world. The Chief Minister informed that the government will develop the weekly markets into tourist destinations like London and Hong Kong. Well, if you’ve loved shopping in Delhi, then your shopping experience in the capital will soon undergo a global twist. Back in Bangalore, canals shall undergo a makeover to give it Amsterdam feels. 

Weekly Markets In Delhi To Become Global Tourist Spots

Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal proposed a global makeover for the city’s weekly markets. He stated that the government shall develop them as a popular global tourist spot.  Kejriwal interacted with the representatives of weekly market associations. And stated that an atomsphere has been created in India where weekly markets and street vendors face numerous problems. But he assured them that his government shall encourage them like other countries.

He stated “We will develop a system for setting up weekly markets so that tourists from countries like the US visit them. The weekly markets will be presented as one of the most attractive tourist places in Delhi.” Kejriwal further added that the market associations and the government must work together to strengthen Delhi’s economy amid COVID-19. He assured representatitives that the government shall develop a proper system for revamping of the weekly markets. Weekly markets can then undergo a transformation to become popular tourist destinations in Delhi.” This meeting came after the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA)  permitted weekly markets to reopen on trial basis last week.

Delhi Markets To Maintain Stringent Social Distancing Measures

Kejriwal requested association to maintain social distancing in the markets. He stated “If you fail to do that, the government officials might take action against you, and this will affect your customer strength. Please appoint your volunteers with the heads of the weekly markets, for maintaining a system for social distancing in the markets.” He further added that if the public complains about no social distancing in the markets then it shall pose a problem for the markets.

Delhi Government To Develop Weekly Markets Like Hong Kong To Boost Tourism

The Delhi Chief Minister also stressed the importance of opening markets on a trial basis. It can then undergo a conversion into a permanet plan by the LG. Kejriwal can then also advocate for the permanent opening of all weekly markets in Delhi. He stressed on the fact that they have many plans for operating weekly markets in the capital. He assured the visiting members of the government that they shall create a proper management for the weekly markets to boost tourism.

Kejriwal stated that the area of Chandni Chowk has undergone a revamp.  So, more and more tourists shall start visiting the area. He said “The weekly markets will be presented as one of the most attractive tourist places in Delhi.
