Dubai Welcomes Its First Automated Taxi

Dubai’s first driverless taxi is here and has also passed the necessary safety requirements. The smart car can travel at a speed of 35km per hour and can accommodate four people.

What’s It?

Don’t be surprised if you spot taxis without drivers on Dubai roads. DG World in collaboration with Dubai Silicon Oasis has developed the first automated taxi and the smart vehicle has passed all the necessary safety requirements. The car can travel at a speed of 35km per hour and can accommodate four people. Dubai RTA had launched the vehicle at Gitex (Dubai’s biggest electronic shopping fest) last year.

Although the smart car operates without a driver, there are provisions that also enable the car to be operated in human driving mode. So, in case of a technical glitch, all you need to do is press a button and the car will automatically switch from its automated mode to the human mode. How cool is that!

Apart from this, the vehicle is also equipped with a GPS system which allows it to sense light and any other potential hazards in its surroundings. Talk about road safety!

What Else?

And that’s not all! Dubai has a lot happening on the transport front. From Skypods to Flying Taxis and a train from Dubai to Abu Dhabi, UAE is leaving no stone unturned in proving the best for its residents. Meanwhile, UAE’s first self-driven car- Muse will be launched at the Auto Shanghai Exhibition 2019, this April.
