5 Foods You Should NEVER Keep In The Refrigerator

The purpose of a refrigerator in every household is to store food items and keep them healthy for some days. We store vegetables, fruits, meat, eggs, fish, leftover dishes, ice cream, and whatnot. But a fridge is actually not meant to store everything that you use in your kitchen. There are some foods that you should always keep away from storing in refrigerators. Let’s take a look at the grocery items that stay fresh without cold temperatures.

NEVER Keep These 5 Foods In The Refrigerator!

Basil

If you want to keep basil fresh and healthy, store it at room temperature. The trick to fresh basil leaves is to submerge the stems in a cup or glass of water. Basil leaves in the refrigerator will make the leaves black as the leaves will soak in the smell of stored food items.

Bread

A very common thing in most households is keeping a loaf of bread in the refrigerator. It is quite a usual mistake and you need to stop doing this if you fridge bread slices. Pieces of bread get stale at cold temperatures and no one ever likes to eat stale and dried bread slices.

Bell Peppers

After you buy colourful bell peppers from the market, you do not need to store them in a refrigerator. Keeping these inside a fridge can lead to losing the crunch and crisp texture of these bell peppers. Make sure to store these vegetables in a cool and dry place. However, you can keep bell peppers at a cold temperature only if they are cut into pieces.

Honey

When it comes to storing honey safely, keeping it in a good container in a cool and dark place is the most perfect solution. If you store honey in a refrigerator, the cold temperature will solidify it to a small extent. Also, the quality of honey kept in a fridge becomes distasteful.

Tomatoes

Tomatoes are meant to be soft yet firm and juicy. When you put these inside the refrigerator, the extreme cold temperature does not sit well with the texture. An enzyme present in tomatoes reacts to this cold temperature leading to an extremely slushy texture. In fact, this changes the taste too.
