Goa Partied On New Year’s Eve Without Masks Or Social Distancing

As India ringed into 2021, places like Delhi, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and more had imposed strict restrictions on New Year celebrations, in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the party situation at Goa did not seem much different from pre-pandemic times. On the New Year’s Eve, a large number of people partied without adhering to the protocols of safety. Neither did they wear masks, nor were they maintaining social distancing. The social media has been flooded with posts of New Year parties in Goa. Many people have posted those party videos expressing their concerns about the virus spread.

 

People Partied In Goa Flouting The Protocols Of Safety Amid Pandemic

The beach destination, Goa is known for its scintillating nightlife. Every year, during the New Year’s Eve, it attracts a large number of tourists from all across India who head over to the state to attend the most happening beach parties. This year was expected to be different owning to the coronavirus fear. But surprisingly, the party scenes in Goa weren’t any different from the other years. People gathered in large numbers in the party areas, and they did not wear masks or maintain social distancing. There had been discussions on imposing night curfew in the state, but nothing was specified officially regarding its implementation. The government had, however, asked people to follow the safety norms. Also recently, a Gujarat teen fled to Goa after parents scolded him over studies.

People Expressed Their Concerns Over Social Media

Many people have expressed their worries and dissatisfaction after the social media got flooded with pictures and videos of the New Year Parties. One user wrote, “No social distancing, very few masks, overcrowded beaches, many restaurants observing no COVID norms: New Years Eve in Goa was like, well,almost every other year! Either corona has left Goa’s shores, or the local admin has decided that it’s a new year, so no worries, be happy!”

Another wrote, “Year-end parties in Goa used to give me so much joy. But this year, a lot of them (not all) are giving me anxiety attacks. Heaps of videos out on the various platforms. No masks. No distancing. People from all over the place in v. close quarters like there’s no pandemic.”

Meanwhile, thirty-seven passengers who travelled from the UK to India from December 9 to December 22, have tested positive for coronavirus in Goa. Pune’s National Institute of Virology is yet to confirm the presence of the mutant strain in the virus-positive patients.
