If you live outside of India and struggle to send money home, we come bearing good news! Non-resident Indians or NRIs can now access the Unified Payments Interface or UPI from foreign countries. The National Payments Corporation of India or the NPCI is now allowing NRIs to send money to India from certain countries. Here are all of the other important details that you would need to know about this particular news.
Good News! NRIs Can Now Use UPI To Send Money To India
According to an article which was recently published by the Hindustan Times or HT, by linking their International mobile numbers to their UPI, NRIs can make payments to people in India. This access is given to Non-Resident External or NRE and Non-Resident Ordinary or NRO accounts.
These transactions will be completely free of charge, as UPI is for its traditional users. The transactions are also limited to countries like Australia, Canada, the US, the UK, and Singapore among others. Certain banks have apps through which you can avail of this facility.
They are South Indian Bank, Punjab National Bank, IndusInd Bank, IDFC First Bank, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Federal Bank, Equitas Small Finance Bank, DBS Bank, City Union Bank, Canara Bank, Axis Bank and AU Small Finance Bank.
What Kinds Of Payment Apps Support This Function Now?
There are a number of payment apps on which this service is available to NRIs. They are BHIM AU which is by AUSFB, FedMobile which is by the Federal Bank, iMobile which is by ICICI Bank, BHIM Indus Pay which is by IndusInd Bank, and SIB Mirror+ by South India Bank.
In addition to these, the service is also available on PhonePe and so, NRIs can also use that app should any of the others be inadequate in any way. There is a cap of ₹1 lakh per day transaction and in the first 24 hours of registration, one can only send ₹5,000.
