This platform was mainly developed to end the monopoly of certain delivery apps. Moreover, digitisation of the value chain was also a motive. This helped in decentralisation and democratisation of the market. Furthermore, standardisation of operations was established. This platform helped include local vendors and business owners and broaden the perspective of the market. In addition to improving logistics, the customers were able to make independent decisions. But most importantly, there was a decrease in the cost of operations.

The ONDC makes use of “free software methodology, open specifications, and open network protocol”. No matter the platform or application, consumers and companies can exchange goods and services on the ONDC.

To help lower the cost of doing business for everyone on the platform, ONDC wants to establish a dynamic pricing model, digitise inventory management, and optimise delivery costs. By default, ONDC will create a hyper-local search engine model based on GPS proximity information. The consumer has the option to select the vendor and logistics partner on their own for order fulfilment.
