What if you could travel across Europe without booking a flight, packing your bags or worrying about your visa? All you need is a cinema ticket and a little curiosity. The 31st edition of the European Union Film Festival (EUFF) 2026 is returning to India with 28 award-winning films from 27 EU Member States and Ukraine, spanning 30 languages. And frankly, this is quite the invitation for anyone who loves discovering a country through its stories, people and culture.
European Union Film Festival 2026 Returns To India
The festival begins in Shillong on November 12, 2026, before heading to New Delhi from November 25 to December 4, followed by Pune in December. Delhi audiences can catch the screenings at six cultural venues: India Habitat Centre, Instituto Cervantes, Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan, Liszt Institute – Hungarian Cultural Centre, India International Centre and Triveni Kala Sangam.
So, whether you fancy an afternoon of European cinema or want to discover a filmmaker you haven’t heard of before, there is plenty to explore. All screenings will have English subtitles, with entry on a first-come, first-served basis.
From Sandra Hüller’s French Drama To Italian Cinema
Some films already worth looking out for include The Richest Woman in the World, starring Sandra Hüller, Rose (Austria), Oliver Laxe’s Sirāt, Žejtune, directed by Alex Camilleri, and the Italian film A Year of School. The wider selection also features Merckx (Belgium), Bring Me Home (Bulgaria), Drazen (Croatia), Summer School, 2001 (Czech Republic), Maricel (Cyprus), The Last Viking (Denmark), Rolling Papers (Estonia) and Stormskerry Maja (Finland).
But the interesting part is how much ground this edition covers. Seven films by women filmmakers and five debut features feature alongside documentaries, animation, sports dramas and five historical dramas. The stories explore everything from migration, identity and belonging to ageing, disability, mental health, family and love. In other words, expect cinema that goes well beyond the usual happily-ever-after.

Indian Filmmakers, Pay Attention!
EUFF 2026 is not just bringing European stories to Indian screens. It is also opening a door for emerging Indian filmmakers through the newly launched EUFF Film Project Award 2026. The initiative invited short films exploring themes such as identity and belonging, migration and diaspora, queer stories, climate change, indigenous communities and women’s inner worlds.
Up to 10 shortlisted films will be screened during the Delhi chapter, with the winning filmmaker receiving an opportunity to participate in the 15th edition of Script Fiesta in Warsaw, Poland, from March 17 to 21, 2027.
Organised by the Delegation of the European Union to India, in collaboration with EU Member State embassies and regional partners, the festival is bringing together two cultures through the one language that needs no translation: cinema.
