Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway To Open On May 24; Travel Time Will Reduce To 45 Min

Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway Is Completed

For years, travellers have dealt with congestion, delays, and unpleasant journeys on the current NH-27 route. But that is now all set to change. As per a report by NDTV, once finished, the new Lucknow-Kanpur corridor will cut travel time, improve road safety, and make daily travel easier.

The Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway is a six-lane access-controlled highway designed to construct a faster and more seamless link between Uttar Pradesh’s capital and its major commercial hub. This is a 63-km high-speed highway connecting major entry and exit points between the two cities.

As per the reports, this new expressway will simply connect with the existing Kanpur-Lucknow Highway and the Unnao-Lalganj (Raebareli) Highway. The main highlight of this expressway is its effect on travel time. Right now, the 94-km Lucknow-Kanpur route often takes 2.5 to 3 hours, especially during peak hours. The new expressway allows a maximum speed limit of 120 km/h, which will help commuters to cover the journey in just 30 to 45 minutes.

When Will The Expressway Inaugrate?

The project was initially expected to open on April 21, but the timeline was later revised. Now the new target date is May 24. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the new expressway. Once official clearance is granted, the road will open to public travel immediately.

The expressway is set to make travel more comfortable, but it comes at a higher toll cost compared to the current route. As per the reports, currently, travelling on NH-27 costs around ₹95 one-way for cars. The new toll rates approved by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) are significantly higher. For Light Commercial Vehicles, the one-way toll price is ₹445, and the return is ₹670. For buses and trucks, the one-way cost is ₹935, and the return is ₹1,405. And for Heavy Commercial Motor Vehicles, the one-way is ₹1,020, and the return is ₹1,530.

The expressway is likely to become a key economic driver for the state by boosting trade between industrial and commercial zones, promoting faster freight movement, making travelling and commuting practical, and reducing traffic on existing highways.
