A brief glimpse into the information about Nan-e Barbari shows that this is an Iranian wheat-based flatbread. While it is generally formed into an oval shape, it is traditionally brushed with roomal. For those who aren’t aware, roomal is a flour glaze, which gives this bread a golden crust. Not to mention, it helps in keeping the bread lighter on the inside. Before the bread is baked to perfection, one must know that this is usually cooked in a traditional tandoor oven. Yes, it is then sprinkled with poppy, nigella, or even sesame seeds before it is baked well. It’s worth mentioning that this yeast-leavened flatbread is generally served with traditional accompaniments like feta cheese, cucumbers, and even olives. However, if you want, you can also relish it with traditional stew.
