Jharkhand Was Home To The First-Ever Beach On Earth 3.2 Billion Years Ago!

Sitting at a tranquil beach away from the bustle and chaos of everyday life we seldom come across thoughts like how did God create these things. The beautiful mountain, the blue ocean, the sky, the trees, etc. in so right proportion and ratio. Everything seems so perfect. The next thing is how old are all these? Well, a recent study has revealed that probably Jharkhand was home to the first-ever beach on earth.

Singhbum Craton Was The First

So far, the estimated age of our continent was 2.5 billion years old. According to Priyadarshi Chowdhury, a scientist at the National Academy of Sciences in the United States, the first continents were formed 3.2 billion years ago here in the Indian state of Jharkhand. Jharkhand’s Singhbum district was a part of the very first craton ever formed.

Zircon Grain Is The Basis Of The Study

The scientists had assessed the pockets of old sedimentary and igneous rocks that were found in the Singhbum district of Jharkhand. Zircon grain which is a chemical component found in these rocks is the basis for studying the age of landmasses. The team when assessing these grains found that they belonged to ancient beaches or river banks that are over 3.2 billion years old. Thus the conclusion was announced that the present-day district existed above sea level and was probably a beach.

Singhbum Was One Of The Hottest Beach Destinations

The study concluded that the area of the Earth above sea level rose when heated magma moved from the earth’s mantle into its crust. During this hardening process, igneous rock was formed, followed by layers of sedimentary rock. After building layers upon layers, the land grew high and buoyant enough to rise up into a beach, the first of its kind. Today, Singhbhum is landlocked and is at least 300km from the nearest beach in Odisha. Nevertheless, it was once the world’s hottest beach destination.
