Bengaluru is renowned for its IT sector, culture, and international exposure. But there is something city dwellers and tourists cannot avoid—Bengaluru traffic. The serpentine queuing on Outer Ring Road and traffic jams at Silk Board Junction have become a part of the routine. Yet, a recent viral post provided a lighter side to the city’s traffic situation, terming it a ‘tourist attraction’.
‘Chaar Jam Yatra’: Bengaluru Traffic, A Daily Struggle
A sad joke on Bengaluru. At least we have a sense of humour about our suffering and an uncaring govt. pic.twitter.com/dvKkrPYXh7
— Mohandas Pai (@TVMohandasPai) March 12, 2025
Former Infosys executive Mohandas Pai shared a tongue-in-cheek post saying that Bengaluru’s worst traffic bottlenecks should be packaged as a ‘tourist package’. The post induced various reactions, as there were individuals who giggled at the irony and others who insisted on providing concrete solutions.
Pai’s post, which quickly went viral, humorously suggested that areas like Marathahalli, HSR Layout, and Outer Ring Road should be promoted as must-visit locations for their legendary traffic jams.
Even though he wanted to raise the plight of Bengaluru daily commuters, the post soon turned out to be controversial over the root cause of Bengaluru traffic.

Netizens had plenty to say about it. Some of them found the joke funny and laughed at making traffic congestion a travel experience. One of them even quipped that a Bengaluru ride should be part of thrill-seeker travellers’ itineraries.

U hv been posting so many rants…
What is yr solution to Blr’s traffic problems? Build tunnels /elevated rds, flyovers, underpasses?
Pls come up with some practical suggestions, wud be far more useful.— 𝓃𝒶𝓋𝑒𝑒𝓃 (@Cpt_Naveen) March 12, 2025
Sir. Keeping the jokes apart, the major cause of traffic jams is people driving alone in small cars to SUVs. Most of them do this for comfort, financial or positional show off. If this comfort and show off bunch stops doing this, we will reduce traffic density by 50% or more.

But some were not amused. One of them explained that as the post was not in Kannada, some locals may not enjoy it, stating, ‘The joke is not the issue, but the language used may hurt many!’
Another set of users criticised Pai for crying about Bengaluru’s issues time and again without suggesting solutions. A user responded, ‘You go on and on about Bengaluru traffic. What’s your solution? Flyovers, tunnels, improved public transportation? Instead of whining, share ideas!’
Others were concerned that such posts only conveyed a negative image of Bengaluru.
In the midst of the social media controversy, Pai also moved for a solution. He met Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister, DK Shivakumar, to talk about Bengaluru’s infrastructure problems. He underlined the necessity of making roads, footpaths, and metro connectivity better at once. Shivakumar promised major developments would occur within six months.
While Pai’s post turned Bengaluru traffic into a joke, it also highlighted a serious concern. The anger isn’t so much about long commutes as it is about a city that’s failing to keep pace with its explosive growth.

As the talks go on, one thing is certain: folks desire more than viral memes. They desire genuine, long-term solutions. Will Bengaluru take up the challenge? Only time will tell.
