KSRTC Postpones Launch of New Flybus Due To Coronavirus Outbreak

The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has postponed the launch of the new flybus service connecting Anantapur with the Kempegowda International Airport. The new bus service which had to be launched on 13th March has been postponed to 1st April due to the Covid-19 effect and slack traffic according to the corporation. Karnataka also witnessed the very first casualty in India due to coronavirus. A 76-year-old man from died Kalburgi who returned from Saudi Arabia was declared positive for Covid-19. The government of Karnataka has taken stringent measures to contain the virus by shutting down malls, theatres, schools, colleges, summer camps and other gatherings that may have the participation of a large number of people.

KSRTC officials have stated that the ridership of intercity premier services has declined by 20% due to the coronavirus outbreak. According to a senior KSRTC official, several schedules have been cancelled including flybus due to poor patronage. A new flybus service that was scheduled to commence operations on 13th March has been postponed to 1st April.

The Managing Director of Metro operator BMRCL, Ajay Seth stated that the Metro’s daily ridership had fallen by 10 to 15%. BMTC buses were also losing customers. A BMTC official stated that schools are closed and many professionals are working from home, so not many people are travelling by buses. There have also been fewer crowds at KSR Bengaluru City and Yeshwanthpur Railway Stations and many markets have been deserted. KSRTC’s flybus services are Volvo Multi-Axle Chassis that have GPS devices and equipped with AC. They are developed to provide passengers with a luxury commute experience. Passengers from Ananthapur would be able to comfortably travel to and from the Kempegowda International Airport. But unfortunately, due to the coronavirus outbreak, this launch had to be postponed from 13th March to 1st April.
