Drivers who dread hopping between websites to clear a fine and renew a car’s registration may soon do both in one conversation. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has upgraded Mahboub, its virtual assistant, with agentic AI, the state news agency WAM reported on October 23.

Dubai’s Mahboub Chatbot Gets An AI Upgrade

Until now, Mahboub mainly answered questions and handled individual services. The upgraded version can coordinate tasks that depend on one another. A driver with an unpaid fine can settle it and then renew registration without leaving the chat, because the system brings in a specialised AI agent for each step.

Services Covered First

The opening phase is limited to vehicle licensing:

  • vehicle registration renewal
  • fine payments
  • clearance certificate issuance
  • renewal of number plate reservations

Identity, Payment And Language

Users verify themselves through UAE PASS, the national digital identity, and pay through the Dubai Sadad platform. Mahboub works in Arabic and English, and its language models have been tuned to suit the local context, RTA said.

Why Rta Is Doing This

The authority wants fewer clicks, fewer page changes and less time spent on each transaction. The upgrade belongs to RTA’s Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2030. RTA added that development follows its governance and cybersecurity procedures, a point that matters when a chatbot is handling payments and personal identity data.

What Is Still Unclear

The announcement says the enhanced version is being prepared for public rollout, so it is not yet clear when residents can use it. No launch date, app availability or fee changes were mentioned. Until it goes live, vehicle owners should keep using the RTA’s existing channels for fines and renewals.

If it works as described, the upgrade moves Dubai’s government services from answering questions to completing tasks, which is a different level of convenience for anyone who has ever started a renewal only to find a fine blocking it.

FAQs

What does agentic AI mean here?

It means the assistant can coordinate and carry out several connected steps itself instead of answering one question at a time. An example is paying a vehicle fine and then renewing the registration within the same conversation.

Which services does the upgraded Mahboub cover?

The first phase covers vehicle registration renewal, vehicle fine payments, clearance certificate issuance and renewal of number plate reservations

Is the new Mahboub available now?

Not yet, based on the announcement. RTA says the enhanced version is being prepared for public rollout and has not given a date. Check RTA’s official channels for the launch.
