Starting a food business or a start-up can be challenging. An entrepreneur has to consider so many food safety regulations and rules before planning anything. But here’s some good news! To address these challenges, FSSAI has now offered to help entrepreneurs navigate safety rules and licence approvals. Here’s everything you need to know.
FSSAI To Launch A Dedicated Start-Up Cell For Food Businesses
Starting a food business in India does not just require a lot of money, but also comes with many challenges, such as strict health and safety rules and getting special licences from authorities like FSSAI. Not just that, but entrepreneurs also struggle with getting labelling and product claims right and properly understanding the regulations. To address these challenges, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has decided to step in.
According to The Times of India, the food regulator will run a dedicated Start-Up Cell from November. The cell aims to help emerging food businesses understand regulatory requirements and seek guidance on compliance.

How Will FSSAI Help Food Start-Ups?
According to FSSAI, start-ups can approach the cell every Wednesday. During a dedicated online session, entrepreneurs and start-ups can get all their queries addressed. The cell will provide guidance on licensing, registration, product standards and categorisation. Start-ups can also ask questions about approvals, labelling and advertising claims, testing, imports, e-commerce compliance and more.
According to The Times of India, the cell will also have a channel for start-ups to flag recurring regulatory challenges and get information about FSSAI initiatives and guidance materials. To make things easier, FSSAI has also launched an email ID where food businesses can send their questions. It is startupcell@fssai.gov.in. This is definitely an amazing initiative! Food start-ups will find it much easier to navigate these major challenges with FSSAI itself helping them.
