As a part of CSMIA’s comprehensive post-monsoon runway maintenance plan, both runways – RWY 09/27 and RWY 14/32 will be temporarily non-operational on 17th October 2023, from 1100 hrs to 1700 hrs. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport’s runways will remain non-operational on October 17, 2023. Starting from 11 AM, flight services will come at a halt till 5 PM on RWY 09/27 and RWY 14/32. The airport authorities took this decision to shut down operations on the runways for the comprehensive post-monsoon runway maintenance plan. The 6 hours-shutdown will be used to facilitate different kinds of repairs, checking, and proper maintenance. To conduct the comprehensive post-monsoon runway maintenance at the Mumbai International Airport, a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) has been issued six months in advance.
- One of the main aims of the maintenance plan and the temporary shutdown of flight operations of 6 hours is to undertake repair and maintenance activities.
- It is essential to uphold the infrastructure to the best standards.
- The maintenance after the monsoon season is a yearly procedure. It falls under the part of the activities conducted to focus on providing enhanced operational continuity and passenger safety. All these steps of the temporary closure of the airport runways post-monsoon are done with “precision and meticulous efforts”.
