Mumbai’s Interactive Biodiversity Map Highlights Nature’s Treasures

An interactive map showcasing the biodiversity of Mumbai was launched on June 30. It has been illustrated by Rohan Chakravarty aka Green Humour. This map highlights the fauna and flora and also informs readers about the green spaces and the indigenous communities living around Mumbai. A little bit about the illustrator, Rohan has been the brains behind Green Humour. This is a comic which draws inspiration from wildlife, conservation campaign and publications. Rohan also drew inspiration from the work of organizations like The World Wide Fund for Nature, The Wildlife Trust of India, The Arunachal Pradesh State Forest Department, and The Karnataka State Forest Department among others.

Coming to this illustrated beauty, the map covers the Mumbai Metropolitan Region along with Thane Creek, Mahim Bay, Vasai Creek, and the Arabian Sea. Now with this new interactive feature, you can click on the different species and get information about their species, habitats, and conservation status. The species include 17 different flora and 78 fauna. Apart from highlighting the biodiversity treasure, this map also works to promote the work of local photographers such as Kane Lew and Ashish Chalapuram. Apart from them, even wildlife experts such as Pradip Patade, Rajesh Sanap, and Vandan Jhaveri have contributed to this initiative.
