Many north Indians still think that Sikkim is very distant from their places and needs a lot of travel. While Bagdogra airport in West Bengal is well-known among travellers, not many know about the Pakyong Airport in Sikkim. Before the construction of the Pakyong Airport, the nearest airport to Sikkim was the Bagdogra Airport. One needs to take a five-hour drive from the Bagdogra Airport to reach Sikkim. But the Pakyong Airport is just an hour drive from Sikkim’s capital Gangtok.
