PM Modi Declares August 23 As ‘National Space Day’ & Chandrayaan-3 Landing Pt As ‘Shiv Shakti’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Bengaluru on August 26 to congratulate and interact with the scientists behind the terrific Chandrayaan-3 landing. During his address, PM Modi announced August 23 as ‘National Space Day’ and the Chandrayaan-3 Landing point as ‘Shiv Shakti’.

India To Celebrate Aug 23 As ‘National Space Day’

PM Modi visited the Isro Telemetry Tracking and Command Network Mission Control Complex (ISTRAC) in Peenya, Bengaluru. Here, he congratulated India’s heroes, the scientists at ISRO for the successful soft-landing of Chandryaan-3 on the moon’s south pole.

According to a Hindustan Times report, PM Modi addressed the gathering and hailed the efforts of women scientists in this historic Indian space mission. He stated that women scientists played a very important role in Chandrayaan 3. So, naming the Chandrayaan-3 landing point ‘Shiv Shakti’ he said it shall inspire future generations to use science for people’s welfare.

Moreover, he announced that the point where, Chandrayaan-2, the predecessor hit, will be called ‘Tiranga’ point. And in order to encourage younger generations to be involved in science, technology and space, PM Modi has declared August 23, the day Chandrayaan-3 landed on the moon as ‘National Space Day’.

PM Modi stated that Indians have their national pride on the Moon. And he called this feat ‘unprecedented’. In his address, the Prime Minister said that today’s India is bold and brave. He further adds that the scientists at ISRO had taken the Make In India initiative all the way to the moon. This is in reference to India boosting its indigenous productions over the past years.

PM Modi Addressed ISRO Scientists

Other key highlights of his address at the ISRO research facility include a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the Chandrayaan-3 success. He revealed that ISRO scientists actually built an artificial Moon at the facility to test the soft landing. In the Prime Minister’s words, this mission was bound to succeed as it underwent many tests before going to the Moon.

Also, as per experts, from the current $8 billion, India’s space industry will become $16 billion in the next few years, said the Prime Minister. Well, this is certainly a matter of pride for every Indian out there. Meanwhile, now that we know, August 23 is officially National Space Day!
