The Mahakal Lok corridor had been one of the most ambitious projects of the Indian government to give a mammoth boost to the tourism sector in Madhya Pradesh. The Mahakeshwar Temple in Ujjain is one of the 12 jyotirlings in India and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The new 900-metre-long corridor will be a postcard-perfect extension of the temple.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the first phase of the corridor on October 11, 2022. He will unveil the large Shivaling underneath the majestic gateway of the corridor, Nandi Dwar.

The Mahakal Lok Corridor Has Shiva Sculptures And Murals Depicting Tales From Shiva Puran

93 Shiva sculptures and 53 murals from the principal gate to the shrine will portray the tales from Shiva Puran. Interestingly, these murals and statues will also have QR codes. By scanning the codes, visitors can get all the details about a particular statue or mural. Also, the corridor houses a row of 108 sandstone structures bearing the trishul symbol on their pinnacles. The aesthetic corridor comprises cascading fountains too. Taking to his Twitter handle, Union Minister For Culture, Tourism And Development, G Kishan Reddy, shared a scintillating video of the corridor.

The Corridor Has A Parking Zone And A Facility Centre For Devotees

The Mahakal Lok corridor incorporates a plethora of amenities like a multi-storeyed parking zone, solar panels, shops, a park, accommodation, emergency facilities and a devotees’ facility zone. An immersive ‘light and sound’ experience is an addition to the attractions. The Mahakal Lok corridor lies around 200 kilometres away from Bhopal. The construction cost of the corridor’s first phase has been a whopping ₹856 crores. Manoj Yadav, National Media Panelist of the Bharatiya Janata Party, shared another video of the corridor and stated that its design has been inspired by Shiv Leela.

The second phase of the mega project will include the renovation of Maharajwada, Rudrasagar, Ramghat facade, Begum Bagh road and Mahakal Gate.
