The Queen who came to throne in 1952, Queen Elizabeth II, died peacefully on Thursday, September 8, 2022.

The Royal family took to social media to announce the Queen’s passing. The statement from Buckingham Palace read: “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.

After her demise, her eldest son Charles will lead the country as the new King and head of state of the 14 Commonwealth realms.

Queen Elizabeth II became the heir to the throne at age 10

Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor was born on 21 April 1926 in Mayfair, London. Daughter of King George VI, she became the heir to the throne at the age of 10. She was known as Lilibet in her family.

Lately, reports of Her Majesty’s ill-health were floating on the Internet. She was adored by the people and large crowds had gathered at Buckingham Palace upon learning about their Queen’s deteriorating health.

Today at 18.30 BST, the Union Flag on top of the Palace was lowered to half-mast.

The Royal Family has gathered at Balmoral, which is near Aberdeen. Prince William is already there and Prince Harry is on his way.

After reigning for 70 years, Queen Elizabeth remains in the hearts of her people. May her soul rest in peace.
