Tere Gully Mein Ep 9: Ramadan Food Walk At Hyderabad’s Charminar

I recently visited the City Of Pearls – Hyderabad, and realised it should have been named – The City Of Foodies. From Biryanis to Haleem, Kebabs and more, the city is every food lover’s heaven. Add the element of Ramzan to it, and you know it’s going to be paradise. So I packed my bags and set off on a food trail at the most iconic restaurants in Charminar.

I arrived bright and early in Hyderabad with an empty stomach and high levels of anticipation. I had decided that I was going to gorge on meals from only the most iconic restaurants in Charminar and there seemed to be no shortage of those. I finally zeroed in on these 4 and here’s everything you need to know about them:

1. Biryani At Hotel Shadab

When you hear or say the word. ‘Hyderabad’, the first visual that pops up, has to be the iconic Hyderabadi Biryani. Not very far from the iconic Charminar, is Hotel Shadab and I had to start my culinary journey here. The chicken was succulent, each grain of rice was perfectly spiced and the combination was great! For those of you who don’t want to make your way to the hotel, you can also just order from Hotel Shadab via Swiggy and eat from the comfort of your home.

2. Malai Paya, Bheja Fry & Paya Soup At Hotel Nayaab

I know that Hyderabad is known for its biryani but if I had to make Hyderabad’s food famous, it would have to be for Malai Paya, Paya Soup or Bheja Fry that you get at Hotel Nayaab. This restaurant was started all the way back in 1986 by Aziz Zafar and the flavours that made the restaurant so famous are still intact. I loved the food so much that I actually went to look for the owner who, even today, takes an active part in the kitchen. The place is quite hygienic & the food is fabulous. If you like your meals spicy and full of masala – this meal will do complete justice to it. Head to this restaurant or just Swiggy it at home! Oh, and I almost forgot about the desserts. This was the first time I had the Qubani sweet – which is quite popular in Hyderabad. It’s a delicious dish that you have with cream and is a must try.

3. Kababs At Victoria

Not just Biryanis, Hyderabad is known for its Kababs as well. I tried out the Chicken Tikka, Chicken Tangdi Kabab and Chicken 65 at Victoria near Charminar. Now I always thought chicken 65 was a Chinese dish but what I had was a perfect mix of chinese appetizer with a Hyderabadi twist. To order yourself a plate of kababs at home, try Swiggy.

Address: Victoria Restaurant, Bibi Bazar Cross Road, Moghulpura, Charminar, Hyderabad

4. Haleem At Shah Ghouse Cafe and Restaurant

Haleem is actually a Ramadan special and Shah Ghouse Cafe and Restaurant really knows how to do it well. Haleem is made of meat, wheat and plenty of masala. It actually takes about 8-10 hours to make and the haleem here is so popular that people come from all over the city, just for a plate. Luckily, you don’t have to travel all the way and you can just order for a plate or several plates on Swiggy.
