All unnecessary travel is advised to be put on hold for the time being. Now, if you need to travel across the city in a cab for any reason amid the pandemic, then here are 5 simple rules you need to follow. These no-brainers are simple and ensure your and your driver’s safety at all costs.
1. Wear Your Masks Properly
Wearing face masks is one thing. But wearing your masks properly is a whole different ball game altogether. The masks hanging down on the chin, leaving your nose uncovered can be totally done away with. After all, the face mask is not an accessory like your watch or earring, it’s a necessity that can truly keep the coronavirus at bay. Uber now requires all riders to wear a face mask during their trips. Infact riders can also cancel the trip on safety grounds if passengers don’t follow the Covid safety protocols.

2. Use Hand Sanitisers
You’ve heard this once. You’ve heard this twice. You’ve heard this a million times since the birth of the pandemic. Washing hands thoroughly and properly is the easiest way to stop the spread of germs that you can pick up from touching anything, right from the door handles to your forehead. Whenever you travel by Uber, Ola or any cab service, practice sanitising your hands before and after the trip. This way you avoid bringing germs into the cab and taking them with your afterwards. Moreover, avoid unnecessary contact with foreign objects when you are sitting in a cab.

3. Try To Handle Your Own Luggage
While it’s lovely to get a helping hand for your heavy luggage, these are truly exceptional times. So, it’s advisable for you to lift your own luggage and load your own belongings in the cab, to reduce the risk of exposure for both you and your driver. Travel light, so you don’t have to expose your bags unnecessarily to germs and dust. If you’re feeling a little under the weather, do avoid travelling by cab. For unavoidable circumstances, prefer to travel by private vehicles.

4. Choose To Sit In The Backseat
Social distancing is the mantra of the unfortunate Covid season. Even though it’s awkward, the physical distance between people is the key to ensure safety. Cab aggregators like Uber and Ola recommend passengers to avoid sitting on the front seat to maintain enough space between themselves and the driver. So, choose the backseat whenever you travel by cab and leave the front seat safely empty. Limit to no more than three people per in a small cab and no more than five in a bigger vehicle.

5. Keep Windows Open
Restaurants and pubs witness more demand for open-air dining spaces. After all, a closed air-conditioned space is the breeding ground for spreading germs amid the pandemic. Similarly, just like you choose to one in open-air cafes amid the pandemic, keep your windows open while travelling by cab. Proper air circulation helps drastically reduce the transmission of a virus. So, put down the windows while riding in the close quarters of a cab for better circulation and safety. However if you’re travelling in cold or polluted areas or you suffer from allergies, then opening the windows completely might not be the best idea. Even if you open windows 2 to 3 inches or keep at least one window in the cab open and let in the fresh air, it can lessen the risk of infection.
