Singapore was one of the few countries to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus-however the country has announced a new strain of covid virus, which is creating a worry not only in the country but also for people around the world. Here’s everything you must know about it.

What is the new Singapore covid strain?
As per the Singapore government, the new mutant of coronavirus, the B.1.167 Covid variant, is affecting younger children in particular. However, there’s no official confirmation on how many children have been affected so far by the new variant in Singapore.
Steps were taken by the Government to curb the spread of this new variant
The Singapore government is planning to vaccinate all children under the age of 16 amid the fear of this new strain. Furthermore, the government has issued orders to shut all the schools starting today. Primary and Secondary schools, Junior colleges will be shifted to home-based learning till May 28. It has restricted public gatherings to two, banned restaurant dine-ins and closed gyms.

Speaking about this, Education Minister Chan Chun Sing was quoted by news agency AFP saying,
“Some of these mutations are much more destructive and they seem to attack the younger children. Mutations are much more virulent, and they seem to attack the younger children. It is an area of concern for all of us.”
New variant cases in Singapore
The Singapore government also states that children who have contracted the virus so far are not seriously ill, and a few of them have mild symptoms of coronavirus. Singapore has confirmed 38 locally transmitted Covid-19 cases, the highest daily count in eight months.
