And to tackle this major problem, the government decided to take some significant steps. One of their decisions is to start hiring employees from India. The country now has permission to hire cooks from India.

Cooks From India Can Now Join Hotels & Restaurants In Singapore

The government has made some changes to increase the recruitment number in the hotel industry and industries related to services sectors. If we take a look at Singapore’s records of recruiting employers from foreign countries to join its manufacturing and services sectors, the country usually recruits from China, Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, South Korea, and Taiwan, according to a report by NDTV.

And now, Singapore is including India to hire chefs. Cooks can now join hotels and restaurants in Singapore, according to the new development. The Ministry of Manpower of Singapore has already started the application process for Indian cooks to join Indian restaurants.

People who are now interested to hire Non-Traditional Sources work permit holders in the hotel sectors can soon start applying for it. The date to start applying is 1 September 2023. Interested people can do the needful on the official website of the Ministry. If you are wondering what is the meaning of Non-Traditional Sources, here’s your answer. Non-Traditional Sources countries are India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.

Previously, the list of work permit holders was about housekeepers and porters. And now, cooks from India enlist here as well. A panel will be evaluating the applications of this process. Representatives from the hotel industry and the government who are skilled in Indian cuisine will be joining this panel to take a look at the applications and take the final decisions.

The NDTV report also states that this new move by the government is also allowing restaurants to employ cooks from Bangladesh and Sri Lanka too.
