Smart City Index is a report prepared by the Institute of Management Development (IMD) which is based in Switzerland. This report has ranked cities across the world based on a survey. The survey queried more than 20,000 participants about as many as 15 aspects of the cities they are residing in. The data was then collected and the list was created. According to this new list, Singapore is the smartest city in Asia and ranks seventh globally.

Among the surveyed aspects were traffic congestion, access to education as well as employment, public safety, green spaces, etc. It also assessed technological solutions and tech-based facilities which make public spaces more accessible.
Excelling areas like health, safety, technology, mobility, education, governance, etc., this particular city ranked number one in the continent of Asia and seventh in the world for smartness.
However, the report also suggested that despite doing so well, there are still areas in which it needed improvement. For instance, according to the report, it needed better recycling services and that it lacks cultural activities.

Smart City Index: 3 Smartest Cities In The World
1. Zurich, Switzerland
This beautiful Swiss city, according to the Smart City Index, is the smartest city in the world. Switzerland is the only country in the list that is featured twice. According to participants, the best aspect of the city is its affordable housing and lack of traffic congestion.
2. Oslo, Norway
This Norwegian city ranked second worldwide. Among its best-ranked aspects are affordable housing and adequate recycling services. According to the data, the city also has a robust infrastructure when it comes to education and health.
3. Canberra, Australia
Out of the 141 cities that were surveyed, this city ranks third in the world. Affordable housing was the best-ranked aspect of the city. Health facilities and services were also rated very well in the city.
