The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is almost finished with the development of its QR (Quick Response) code-based ticketing system. It would enable passengers to enter and depart Metro stations using just their mobile phones. The technology’s application is available, and DMRC is now testing it. After final testing, officials stated that they would introduce the technology by the end of June.

According to a Hindustan Times report, the transit network is equipped with phone-based QR code ticketing technology. Internal testing of this unique technology is currently being carried out. To make sure that there are no obstacles to producing QR code tickets once the system is in place, several tests like regression testing are being carried out as part of these trials.

The Delhi Metro Rail app would be used to create the e-tickets, according to an official. After making a payment, which may be done using a variety of payment methods, the QR code will be produced on the app.

The authorities estimate that 75 per cent of DMRC commuters currently use smart cards to travel. Prior to the Covid-19 outbreak, this number was roughly 70 per cent and in May of last year, it reached 78 per cent. Currently, the DMRC averages 5.5 to 6 million daily trips, or around 90 per cent fewer trips than it did before the pandemic when it averaged 6 to 6.5 million daily passengers.
