London Marathons are back after most significant events were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The London Marathon takes place annually in April, but it was postponed to October to maximize crowd participation. This year, a Mumbai woman created a Guinness world record in the London Marathon. South Mumbai-based Kranti Salvi covered a distance of 42.2 km in 4 hours, 3 minutes, and 51 seconds. Interestingly Kranti ran in the marathon wearing a Welsh costume.
Mumbai Woman Creates Guinness World Record In London Marathon
According to mid-day, Kranti wore the Welsh outfit because in 2019 in Toronto (Canada) a runner in a Welsh costume created a Guinness World record. The runner finished the marathon in 4 hours and 30 minutes. Before taking part in the marathon, Kranti researched traditional Scottish and Welsh costumes. After the research, she felt Welsh has deeper ethnicity. So, this Mumbai-based woman decided to don a Welsh costume for the marathon.

She believes that costumes add character to the grand theatre that is the marathon. Kranti also stated in her conversation with mid-day that because of her Welsh outfit the Welsh folks present at the marathon cheered for her a lot.
Her husband Capt. Pramod Salvi also participated in the London marathon. Despite suffering a minor ankle injury, he finished the race in five hours. He was at the forefront of record certification.

Kranti Created A Record For The ‘Fastest Woman Runner In Sari’
This is not the first time when Kranti ran wearing a traditional outfit of a country. In the Berlin marathon, she created the record for ‘fastest woman in sari’. And in 2018, Kranti Salvi ran a marathon wearing a nine-yard sari i.e. nav vari sari. Back then she completed the race (of 42.195 km) in 3 hours 57 minutes, and 7 seconds.
Interestingly, she concluded by saying “I hope to run in Tokyo wearing a kimono”.

Well, with hard work and dedication, this Mumbai woman successfully created a Guinness World record for the fastest marathon in Welsh Dress.
