Revered across the globe as ‘Switzerland of India’, Srinagar is the land of beautiful lakes and gardens. This mesmerising city is all set to host a 10-day food and cultural fair. The most amazing part is that the fair will be women-led. The fair is organised as an opportunity to showcase diverse indigenous products and cuisines from different parts of India.

Srinagar To Host A Women-Led Fair

Indu Kanwal Chib, Mission director, Jammu and Kashmir Rural Livelihoods Mission (JKSRLM), spoke about the upcoming event. He said that the ‘SARAS Aajeevika Mela’ will provide a platform for all the participants to sell their handmade products. This will also help them promote their products and create market linkages with other selling platforms.

This 10-day women-led food and cultural fair in Srinagar will begin on March 15. Last month, from February 4 to February 14, a national food and cultural fair was held at Bagh-e-Bahu. This event in the winter capital, Jammu, was a successful one.

About 70 stalls in total will be put on display at this women-led mela, which includes 15 stalls that will be dealing with food alone. This fair is a unique one as they are aiming to bring different cultures to Kashmir from across the country for the first time.

Women’s self-help groups (SHGs) will showcase handicrafts, handloom products, and natural food items from various rural areas throughout the nation.
