Sunil Chhetri Shared How His Wife, Sonam Bhattacharya, Made The First Move
Kamiya directly went on to the point that he ended up marrying the daughter of his football coach. Just as she finished the sentence, Sunil Chhetri right away cautioned, “Do not try this at home!” and we all laughed. We were fortunate enough to hear about his cute love tale with Sonam Bhattacharya, his longtime girlfriend who is now his wife! Goals, isn’t it?
Sunil Chhetri cutely went on to blame his wife for initiating the first move but also said a quick “sorry” to her. Kamiya said that we might confirm this piece of information from Sonam. To which he also gave a relatable reply, “Agar main sure nahi hota, main husband hoon, toh bolta nahi.” (Being a husband, if I wasn’t sure I would never say such a thing.) This made Kamiya laugh out loud again.

He told us that Sonam was the one who messaged Sunil after stealing his number from her father’s phone. Apparently, he got tricked by her into thinking that she was someone else for the first two months. This confusion happened because he wasn’t aware of her real name and only knew her by her dak naam, a Bengali word for pet names. We all know he is glad she made the first move because they are happily married with a beautiful baby boy.
He Was Scared When He Found Out Who It Was
When he found out her identity, he was extremely scared. He told us that he thought she was crazy for doing what she did, taking his number and messaging him. Sunil even told her to “never call me”. That was because he was only 17 and a half during this incident and he looked up to his coach, his now father-in-law.
He tried to warn Sonam that his career would end before it would even start, so he told her not to call. But then he also saw the potential and said, “It had to happen and she was beautiful, so I again messaged her.” Well, we are extremely glad it went this way, kudos to Sonam!
