Swanky New Terminal At Andaman’s Port Blair Airport Looks Breathtaking

Andaman’s Veer Savarkar International Airport at Port Blair is all set to get a swanky new terminal building by October 2022. The airport witnesses scores of domestic and international tourists and they will be greeted in style soon. Around 80 per cent of the terminal building project work is completed. Airports Authority of India ( AAI) is working on this ambitious project at a cost of around  ₹707.7 crores. The airport expansion at Port Blair includes building a new terminal, 4 additional bays for aircraft parking and an additional Apron area. Read on to know more. 

Port Blair Airport To Get Swanky New Terminal By October 2022

Veer Savarkar International Airport at Port Blair in Andaman will get a new terminal building at 40,837 sq metres. The new terminal shall handle around 1200 passengers during peak hours and 40 lakh passengers annually. According to a report by Swarajya, the new terminal shall have 3 floors- lower ground, upper ground and first floor, for bus lounge, departure and arrival and Security Hold Area (SHA) for international passengers respectively.

Terminal To Increase Connectivity & Employment Opportunities

Inspired by Andaman’s island, the new terminal will be designed like a shell-shaped structure to transport passengers to the sea and islands of Andaman. The entire terminal will be beautifully lit with 100 per cent natural lighting for 12 hours a day. From 28 check-in counters, conveyor belts, passenger boarding bridges to landscaping, there’s a lot in store for tourists arriving and departing from Andaman. Ministry of Civil Aviation revealed that this airport will increase both connectivity and employment opportunities from the Andaman Islands.
