Mughal emperor Akbar and his Rajput bride Jodha Bai’s enduring love story is revealed in the film Jodha Akbar, starring Hrithik Roshan and Aishwariya Rai Bachchan. The film not only takes us back to the ancient era but also through some of India’s spectacular historic forts and palaces. The shooting of the movie took place in these stunning locations in Rajasthan, Agra and Delhi and they must be on your bucket list too:
1. Roopangarh Palace, Rajasthan
This was the filming location of the place where the Rajas held a meeting on the proposal of Akbar. Maharaja Roop Singh of Kishangarh had constructed the palace in 1648. Now it has been converted into a palatial heritage hotel.

2. Amer Fort, Rajasthan
The Amer Fort in Rajasthan was turned into Jodha Bai’s maternal home in the movie. The hilltop fort is a stunning exemplar of Rajput architecture and is a true visual treat. Raja Man Singh had constructed the fort in 1592. It was renovated and expanded later by Jai Singh I. You can also relish a traditional Rajasthani meal amid the opulence of the 1135 AD restaurant inside the palace.

3. Agra Fort
This red sandstone fortress was shown as the Mughal Palace of Akbar in the movie. Here, the emperor and the princess started falling in love with each other. Akbar had begun the construction of the fort in the 14th century. It was completed later by his grandson Shah Jahan. It used to be the residence of the Mughal rulers in the 15th century when the capital was shifted to Delhi from Agra.

4. Jaipur City Palace, Rajasthan
The City Palace in Jaipur was built by Jai Singh I I. Its construction had started in 1727. The Jaipur City Palace was the seat of the Maharaja of Jaipur until 1949. The descendants of the royal family still live in the fort. The Gudiya suite in the palace is also listed on Airbnb for an extravagant stay experience.

5. Red Fort, Delhi
Constructed between 1639 and 1648, this was the main residence of the Mughal rulers. Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru hoisted the tricolour flag of India above the main entrance of the Red Fort on August 15, 1947, the day of Indian independence. Thus, the fort has played a pivotal role in the history of India. The national flag is hoisted at the fort every year on Indian Independence Day.

The primary filming of the movie had started in Karjat, a mesmerising hill station in Maharashtra. Akbar’s Agra home was set up at ND Studios in Karjat.
